This remarkable planetary nebula was discovered by William Herschel September 7, 1782 and later nicknamed by Lord Rosse in the 1840s because of its vague resemblance to the 6th planet. Note the symmetrical "handles"called ansae formed by channeled gas outflows. Although distinctly blue in an unfiltered ocular, an OIII filter will enhance detail and, as with most PNs, change its color to green.
